Tim: Celebrity Delly

Celebrity Delly holds a special place in my heart. It already was my favorite food spot in the area before starting this project. I cannot recommend it enough, so when it came time for us to do a bonus brunch outing, it was my immediate choice.

The Delly has done an incredible job adapting to covid since the beginning of the pandemic, but I will admit that I found it laughable early on when they blocked off three parking spots in front and threw a tent over them, calling it "the patio". For context, Celebrity Delly sits in an unassuming and not exactly vibing strip mall right on Route 50. Its immediate neighbors are an ABC store and a 711. At the time, I remember wondering who in their right mind would choose to eat in their "patio". If I could go back in time and give past Tim a spanking, I would do it in an instant. I would do it eagerly.

Andrew and I staked our claim to a spot in "the patio," immediately taking note of the astroturf and the view of people loitering outside 711. As with other restaurants, their menu is available via QR code. Within seconds of Andrew looking at the menu, he barked that he knew what he is getting. Crabcake Grilled Cheese. One of their daily specials. I started to lecture Andrew about not even looking at the breakfast and brunch menu first, but could not hide the excess salivation starting to peek out from betwixt my lips. That sammy sounded damn good. I tried my best to coax Andrew into something else, since I refused to betray the FCB oath of us trying different items. When he brought up his lactose intolerance, I eagerly agreed that he should try something else that would not result in days of diarrhea. However, at the last minute, Andrew said screw it and ordered the crabcake grilled cheese. I honored my oath, but didn't branch too far out, and ordered a crabcake BLT, another daily special. I ordered a side of home fries to somewhat stick with the brunch vibe. We both ordered coffee and mimosas.

Despite unfortunately being out of champagne and therefore no mimosas, as always the Delly came through with crabcake sammies that would make any Maryland restaurant blush. I ordered a second crabcake BLT to go for my wife, and even like 5 hours later after sitting on our counter, it was still delicious.

Overall, Celebrity Delly continues to impress, somehow managing to have an enormous varied menu, yet never disappoint on any individual item. Andrew and I stopped by again recently to pick up breakfast before heading on a road trip. I got the Chuck's Muffin breakfast sandwich, and Andrew built his own. They came with sides of home fries, and I ordered a coffee to go. The server warned me that their to go coffee cups were small, but I was still surprised when he handed me a thimble. Still good coffee though, and probably good for me, since too much can make my tummy angry. That's Celebrity Delly though, always looking out for what's best for you.

They remain my favorite local food spot, and if you live anywhere in Northern Virginia, or really even the Northern Hemisphere, you owe it to yourself to give Celebrity Delly a visit, you won't regret it.
